Our first meeting of 2025 saw a PowerPoint presentation on the UK International Orchid Show put together by Chris Barker of the BOC. Having previously been part of agricultural shows at Newbury, Peterborough and Malvern the show is now part of the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Show at the NEC Birmingham.
The presentation featured exhibits from the trade, which included nurseries from Ecuador and Taiwan, as well as society displays. The top award in the latter was won by the O.S.G.B. while Andrew Bannister swept the board not only winning the Best Trade Display but also several class awards.
Besides the displays the presentation focused on individual orchids, some of which gained awards from the RHS Orchid Committee who met during the event. For those who visited the show it was a pleasant reminder of a good day out and plants purchased and perhaps an incentive for others to visit the 2025 show in June.
The table show winner was Cymbidium Argiro staged by Christine and David Murray.
